After-School Teachers
Thomas Draskovic, Lead Teacher
Thomas is Hunkpapa Lakota from Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota. He works as a Lakota Culture Teacher at American Indian Magnet School. He has been working in the American Indian community for over 20 years. In his spare time, he enjoys writing songs and playing music with his band, Pretendians. He is also a traditional dancer and powwow singer.
Lisa Yankton, Teacher
Ms. Yankton is a Dakota language, culture, and American Indian history teacher at the American Indian Magnet School. She is a member of the Spirit Lake Dakota Nation in North Dakota. She graduated from University of California Berkeley with degrees in both Native American Studies and Conservation and Resource Studies. Ms. Yankton enjoys pow wow dancing, traveling, history, learning about plants, cooking, poetry, reading, and star gazing. Her three-legged dog named Wampum climbed Black Elk’s Peak in the Black Hills. She now has a kitty named Hoka (badger).
