Jeffry D. Martin

Community Power-Up Outreach Specialist

Jeffry Duane Martin was born and raised in Kankakee, Illinois. Upon completion of undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Jeff began working in the field of criminal justice. He worked in a variety of positions, including juvenile rehabilitation officer, case manager/counselor, and adult probation/parole officer.

As a result of working in these environments and seeing the inadequate response to the needs of those involved, Jeff began serving in numerous outreach programs throughout the Twin Cities, such as Save Our Sons Academy, Summit-University Peace Keeping Circle, and Rites of Passage.

Jeff served as President of the St. Paul Branch and First Vice President of the Minnesota/Dakota Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) where he carried on the fight to claim civil and human rights for all people.

Jeff received his seminary training at Bethel Seminary earning a Masters of Arts in Community Ministry Leadership in 2012. He serves as an Associate Minister at Progressive Baptist Church in St. Paul, where he has been a member since 1992.

Jeff received his Juris Doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 2003, and has worked as a prosecutor, public defender, and in general practice for the Martin Law Office in St. Paul, where he focused on employment, family, criminal, and bankruptcy cases. He most recently served as Deputy Director of Human Rights and Economic Opportunity for the City of Saint Paul.
